ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR DR. RIDVAN EKMEKCI, MA, PhD

Psychological Performance Consultant

Professor Ridvan Ekmekçi was born in Istanbul, he earned bachelor degree on Physical Education and Sport Teacher, Master and PhD on Sport Management. He was a basketball player till 1994 then he became basketball referee in 1994. He went to Australia-Sydney in 1999 and he was ABA, NSW and WNBL Basketball referee, he also was an observer and coach for young referees at Sydney. He worked for Turkish Basketball Federation between 2001 and 2003 as sport expert and responsible person for referee education programs. He officiated many national and international games in Turkey and Australia. His doctoral thesis on Basketball referees source of stress and coping style. He has a book name of “Successful Psychological Officiating”. In 2011 he went to Florida University and fallowing year Cologne, German Sport University as visitor researcher for post-doctoral studies. He researched on IMG Sports Academy of the business model, The Disney World – Orlando, ESPN Wide World of Sport management structure, Miami Heat NBA basketball team management and marketing system. He has some articles on sport management systems in Australia, USA and Europe. He has books on Sport Management.

 

He became Technical Commissioner, coach and observer in 2012 and delegate for Euroleague in 2013. He selected as an academic committee member for project of “Sports and Olympic Volunteers” which was carried with Turkish National Olympic Committee and UNICEF. He was a coordinator and educator for 2013 FIFA U20 World Championship, 2014 World Handball School Championship, 2015 World School Orienteering Championship volunteer education programs. He has many scientific papers and presentations on sport management, psychological performance, sources of stress and coping style and motivation.

He coaches young referees, athletes and students to improve their psychological performance, also he gives seminars about volunteering, team work and communication. Prof. Ekmekçi is married with two kids. He likes to play basketball and golf. He works for Pamukkale University as Head of Sport Management Department.
