Camper Ioannis Misioulis from Greece: From fighting fires to facing the flames of the court

Meet Ioannis Misioulis — a 26-year-old firefighter from Kozani, Western Macedonia (Greece) — whose resilience and composure under pressure extend from emergency response to the basketball court. This May, Ioannis passed the Hellenic Basketball Federation’s promotional exams, officially earning the opportunity to officiate Men’s National League 2 games, the fourth tier in Greece, starting this September.

With four years of regional officiating behind him across various parts of Greece, he’s no stranger to high-stakes matches — or high-volume environments.

“In Greece, officiating often comes with fiery atmospheres. Even I’ve been had fans storm the court — but every time, I walked away a stronger referee and person.”

Once a player himself, Ioannis found his true calling with the whistle in hand. Now, he joins Survival Camp 2025 with a clear mission:

  • To grow as a referee and a professional,
  • To exchange knowledge with international peers,
  • And to gain the mindset, tools, and insights needed to keep levelling up.

Ioannis brings intensity, courage, and humility to the camp — and we’re excited to see how far this combination takes him.
