Session 2, Day 4 – 2025

Although yesterday was a rest day, the training up to that point had been quite intense. Thanks to yoga and the sauna, I was able to refresh my body and mind, which helped me start the remaining two days with renewed motivation.

Morning Session

The day began at 7:15 a.m. with a gathering in the gym. Today’s main theme was teamwork among referees and game management.

We first reviewed the importance of eye contact between the center referee and the trail referee, followed by practical exercises. This reminded me once again how crucial communication is during a game. Next, we practiced signals and presentation, aiming to improve clarity and accuracy in our expressions.

Game Management Discussion

Starting at 9:00, we had an in-depth discussion about game management. It was a valuable opportunity to reaffirm the importance of mechanics (referee positioning and movement) and fundamentals (basic officiating skills). I strongly felt again that a solid understanding of the rules and sound fundamentals are the foundation for any decision made during a game.

Video Analysis Session

Using game clips from the previous day, we gained many insights. Analyzing plays from different angles helped us understand more concretely where referees should move—or when they should stay put—for optimal positioning. It was a clear reminder of how critical proper movement is in actual games.

Calls at the End of the Game

During the discussion on “End of the game,” we reviewed the importance of calls in the final two minutes and during the last plays, using video clips for case studies. One particularly striking example was how teams communicate during timeouts in the final moments and how referees should be aware of these shared strategies.

This directly connects to today’s theme of game management: the standard by which a game is officiated throughout is ultimately reflected in how those crucial final moments are handled.

Mental Session

The mental training session was also very insightful. We learned in detail how self-talk during a game affects confidence. One phrase that left a strong impression on me was, “Confidence doesn’t come naturally; it is something you train yourself to build.” The words you say to yourself shape how you perceive yourself. From now on, I want to find my own “confidence cues” so I can referee with greater self-assurance.

Practical Training

During the on-court session, we received specific and detailed advice from the instructors, focusing mainly on positioning.

Although my legs were not in great condition today, the trainer prepared an alternative program for me, which allowed me to participate without overstraining.

Daily Review

At the end of the day, we analyzed game clips and eye-camera footage. By reviewing mechanics and fundamentals in detail, I was able to clearly identify my own areas for improvement.

Looking Ahead to Tomorrow

Tomorrow will be the final day. I sincerely hope that all participants will achieve their goals set for this camp and head into the upcoming season with confidence. As for myself, I am determined to apply everything I’ve learned here to real-game situations.
